Privacy Policy – CLIL Notebook Capture Extension

Overview

CLIL Notebook Capture is a Chrome browser extension that allows teachers to save web pages to their CLIL Notebook Resources library. This privacy policy explains what data the extension collects and how that data is used.

What Information Do We Collect?

The extension collects a small amount of data, only when you explicitly use it:

• Page URL – the URL of the webpage you choose to save.
• Page title – the title of the webpage you choose to save.
• User ID – your CLIL Notebook account identifier, used to associate saved pages with your account.

This data is collected only when you click the extension icon and press "Send Current Page". The extension does not collect data in the background and does not monitor general browsing activity.

What We Do Not Collect

The extension does not collect or access:

• Your passwords, credit card details or other financial data.
• Your emails, messages or other personal communications.
• Your keystrokes, mouse movements, or general click/scroll behaviour.
• A full history of all sites you visit.
• Content of web pages beyond the URL and title you explicitly send.

How Do We Use the Information?

The data is used solely to provide the core functionality of the extension:

• Saving the chosen webpage into your personal CLIL Notebook Resources library.
• Allowing you to see and use that resource later inside the CLIL Notebook app.

We do not use the extension-collected data for advertising, profiling, or analytics.

What Information Do We Share?

We do not sell, rent, or share your extension data with third parties. The data is transmitted only to CLIL Notebook's own backend service to save it to your account. We do not transfer data to any other services, advertisers, or third parties.

Limited Use Disclosure

CLIL Notebook Capture complies with Google Chrome Web Store's Limited Use requirements:

• Allowed Use: We only use the collected data (URL and page title) to provide the core functionality of saving pages to your CLIL Notebook Resources library. This is the single purpose of the extension.
• Allowed Transfer: Data is only transferred to your personal CLIL Notebook account for storage. We do not transfer data to any third parties.
• Prohibited Advertising: We do not use or transfer user data to serve personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertisements.
• Prohibited Human Interaction: We do not allow humans to read user data. Your saved URLs and titles are stored securely and only accessible to you through your CLIL Notebook account.

Where Data Is Stored

• URL and title: stored in a secure Firebase Firestore database as part of your CLIL Notebook resources.
• User ID: stored locally in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so the extension knows which account to save to.

Data Security

All communication between the extension and the backend uses HTTPS encryption. Data in Firebase Firestore is protected by authentication and access rules so that only the owning user can access their saved resources. We use modern cryptography (TLS/HTTPS) for all data transmission.

Data Retention and Control

Saved resources (URL + title) remain in your CLIL Notebook account until you delete them. You can remove any resource at any time from within the CLIL Notebook web application. You have full control over your data.

Children's Privacy

CLIL Notebook Capture is intended for use by educators. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the extension.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted will be deemed acceptance of the revised policy.
